Rihanna (pronounced /riːˈɑːnə/, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20, 1988), is a Barbadian singer. She also serves as the cultural ambassador for Barbados. She is the first Barbadian artist to win a Grammy Award.Rihanna is currently signed to the Def Jam Recordings label. She has attained five Billboard Hot 100 number ones thus far ("SOS", "Umbrella", "Take a Bow", "Disturbia" and T.I.'s "Live Your Life").
Rihanna broke into the recording industry in 2005 with the release of her debut album, Music of the Sun, which features the hit single "Pon de Replay". Less than a year later, Rihanna released A Girl Like Me and earned her first number-one single, "SOS". In 2007, Rihanna released her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad. The album has yielded seven singles, including "Umbrella", "Don't Stop the Music", and "Take a Bow".
According to the Los Angeles Times, Rihanna is assisting investigators with their case against Chris Brown. The 20-year-old singer is helping the authorities build a domestic violence case against Brown, her boyfriend.
According to police, Rihanna - whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty - left a pre-Grammy Awards party with bruises and a scratch to her face. Some are reporting that her injuries were quite severe. She was treated at a "major medical facility," said a police source.
The alleged assault may have begun in the vehicle - a rented Lamborghini - that Brown was driving. Witnesses said they heard a loud confrontation. One of them reportedly called 911. The Lamborghini has now been impounded.
As we previously reported, Brown is currently facing criminal threats, though the L.A.'s district attorney's office may decide to charge him with additional crimes. That decision may depend, in part, on Rihanna and what she tells the authorities.
